About DCSA’s Pre-Professional Day Program

High Quality training Producing successful dancers

The Pre-Professional Day Program provides essential training to the most advanced and dedicated students. Dancers in this division meet daily, for increased hours of training, as they work to perfect the skills already acquired in foundational levels of classical ballet. There is a greater emphasis in the Day Program curricula on mastering artistry and performance skills, with the goal to prepare students for professional careers in dance.

Day Program students will work with DCSA Artistic Director, Vanessa Bessler, named Outstanding Teacher of the Year for 4 consecutive years at Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP), along with DCSA's top-notch faculty. Additionally, Day program students will participate in our strengthening and cross-training program along with a variety of classes that support future careers in dance including contemporary dance and Progressing Ballet Technique. Students are encouraged to complete their high school education through the newly created DCSA Academy - College Preparatory Academics for Dancers. The Day Program at DCSA partners with two highly ranked online education programs that also provide education to dancers in the Houston Ballet Academy and American Ballet Theatre. Current DCSA Pre-Professional Day Program dancers have have achieved high academic standards and placements, as well as being awarded training scholarships and recognitions at multiple YAGP competitions in 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019.

Beginning in the 2019-2020 school year, DCSA will be offering a full academic program for day program dancers ages 11 and up through our partnership with St. Luke’s Episcopal school, one of San Antonio’s leading academic schools. For over 70 years,  St. Luke’s Episcopal School  (SLES) has offered an exemplary education to talented PreK3 - 8th grade students. Challenged by high academic standards and nurtured by passionate teachers, St. Luke’s students are poised for future success. The holistic approach and joyful learning environment develop the mind, body, and spirit of children.

In addition, SLES proudly offers Variable Tuition. Variable Tuition is a need-based financial assistance program similar to those used by many independent schools, colleges, and universities. This program allows families to apply for reduced tuition that is right for their family’s financial situation.

The Day Program at DCSA also welcomes students who pursue their education through homeschool or online school options. Our facility includes a school room that provides students with a quiet place to pursue their education before or after their dance classes.
